Uriupinsk

 

a city (since 1929) under oblast jurisdiction and the administrative center of Uriupinsk Raion, Volgograd Oblast, RSFSR. Uriupinsk is linked by a branch line to the Aleksikovo railroad station on the Povorino-Volgograd line, 36 km from the city. Industrial establishments include a crane-building plant, the Sel’khozzapchast’ Plant, a laminated paper plant, a knitwear factory, a furniture factory, and a shoe factory. The food-processing industry is represented by a vegetable-oil mill, a cannery, a butter factory, and a meat-canning combine. Building materials are also produced in Uriupinsk. The city has a medical school and a museum of local lore.
