It has an area of 1,561 sq km, of which Lake Khantaiskoe occupies 822 sq km and Lake Maloe Khantaiskoe occupies 58 sq km. It has a volume of 23.5 cu km, a length of 160 km, and a maximum width of 9 km. The average depth is 15 m, and the maximum, 56 m. The water level fluctuates by 13 m. The reservoir carries out long-term regulation of flow.
