Ustilug

 

a city (since 1940) in Vladimir-Volynskii Raion, Volyn’ Oblast, Ukrainian SSR. Located at the point where the Luga River empties into the Bug, Ustilug is 12 km from the Vladimir-Volynskii railroad station on the Kovel’-L’vov line. The city’s inhabitants work at enterprises in Vladimir-Volynskii.

Mache mentions, for example, that Stravinsky worked on Le Sacre on the banks of the Bug, at Ustilug, and that this is the home of "aquatic warblers...who all use these [iterative] sorts of rhythmic combinations." Since all the larger-scale, which is to say protoformal, inferences drawn here depend upon successions of sound gestures where the repertoire is of varying extent, one cannot suppress the whispering of questions regarding what mechanisms might be at work other than those which are here inferred to have the character of intention.
