an urban-type settlement and administrative center of Uvel’skii Raion, Cheliabinsk Oblast, RSFSR. Served by the Nizhneuvel’skaia railroad station on the Cheliabinsk-Troitsk line, 82 km south of Cheliabinsk. Population 10,400 (1975). Local extraction enterprises produce sand and clays used as refractory and molding materials.
