An ITU-T modem protocol which allows 9600 bps half duplex or four wire communications with fall back to 7200 bps and 4800 bps. V.29 is used by fax machines.

V.29An ITU standard (1976) for synchronous 4,800, 7,200 and 9,600 bps full-duplex analog modems using QAM modulation on four-wire leased lines. It was adapted for Group 3 fax transmission over dial-up lines at 9,600 and 7,200 bps.
