Year of birth unknown; died 1271. Armenian scholar. Born in Bardzrberd (Cilicia).
Vardan taught for a long time in various Armenian cities. He was a historian of the clerical-feudal tendency. Vardan’s most valuable work, General History (from ancient times to 1267), contains information on Transcaucasian history and the Mongol conquests. It gives the names of Armenian historians, predecessors of Vardan, whose works have not been preserved.
