Verkhneangara

 

a mountain ridge northeast of Lake Baikal, in Buriat ASSR and Irkutsk Oblast, RSFSR. Verkhneangara Ridge is composed of crystalline rocks, broken by granite intrusions. Its length is about 200 km; its maximum elevation, 2,608 m. The crest is narrow, with pointed peaks, troughs, and cirques. Larch forests grow on the slopes of Verkhneangara Ridge; above 1,300-1,400 m, the peaks are bare.
