The number of distinct horizontal lines, alternately black and white, that can be seen in the reproduced image of a television or facsimile test pattern; it is primarily fixed by the number of horizontal lines used in scanning. Also known as vertical definition.

vertical resolution

The number of rows, dots or lines from top to bottom on a printed page, display screen or fixed area such as one inch. Contrast with "horizontal resolution," which is the number of elements, dots or columns from left to right.
