Svartisen

 

a glacier in central Norway, in the Scandinavian Mountains. Area, about 600 sq km. It is an ice cap, rising to an elevation of 1,691 m, and is divided into two parts by the Glamdalen, an ice-free valley. It forms ice tongues, which descend almost to the sea, reaching the lowest point in continental Europe.
