Administratively, veterinary services are subordinate to the Union (republic, oblast, krai, or raion) body or ministry (department or enterprise) in whose system they belong. Specifically, veterinary services are subordinate to superior veterinary bodies. In the USSR the Ministry of Agriculture directs veterinary services.
