Vibrants

 

flapped or trilled resonant consonants whose pronunciation is accomplished by the rhythmic opening and closing of a stop (occlusion). The stream of air passing through thus forces the active organ (articulator) to vibrate or trill—for example, the Russian [r] and [zh].
