a device on which filled sand-casting molds for one application are shaken in order to break them up and separate the used molding sand mixture from the hardened castings. The vibrating screens on which the casting molds are placed are powered by pneumatic vibrators or mechanical drive systems. Mechanical vibrating screens include the unbalanced-pulley and the cam-driven types; these consume far less electricity than the pneumatic screens. When vibration is applied, the molding sand mixture drops through the screen and can then be used repeatedly, while the castings are taken off for machining and fettling.
