Tedesco, Victor

 

Born 1821; died May 28, 1897, in Brussels. Belgian political figure; revolutionary democrat.

Tedesco, a lawyer, was an active member of the Brussels Democratic Association. During the February 1848 revolution in France, he advocated expanding the struggle for a democratic republic and called for the immediate arming of Belgian workers. He was arrested by the Belgian authorities and condemned to death, but his sentence was subsequently commuted to 15 years’ imprisonment. Released in 1854, Tedesco resumed his political activities as a supporter of the Liberal Party.
