Turner, Victor Witter

(1920–  ) cultural anthropologist; born in Glasgow, Scotland. Educated at the Universities of London and Manchester, he taught at Manchester before becoming professor of anthropology at Cornell University in 1963. An authority on rituals and social processes, he taught social thought at the University of Chicago (1968–77), and moved on to the University of Virginia in 1977.
