a city in Rezekne Raion, Latvian SSR, on the, Malta River (the Daugava River basin); a station on the Riga-Rezekne line. Population, 4,900 (1969). Vijani has a creamery, and nearby there are peat-gathering and metal-working establishments. The area is first mentioned in historical documents in 1495, but the city was established in 1928.
