A noncontagious bacterial infection of the oral mucosa characterized by ulceration and formation of a gray pseudomembrane; caused by certain fusiform bacteria and spirochetes; formerly known as Vincent's angina. Also known as fusospirochetosis; Plaut-Vincent's infection; trench mouth; ulcerative gingivitis.
