Vlastos, Gregory

(1907–  ) classicist; born in Istanbul, Turkey. He was educated at Robert College, Istanbul (B.A. 1925) and Harvard (Ph.D. 1931) and became a naturalized U.S. citizen. He taught at Cornell (1948–55), Princeton (1955–76), and the University of California: Berkeley (1976–82). He was highly regarded for his publications in the field of Greek philosophy, which included Platonic Studies (1973) and Plato's Universe (1975).
