Vodianoi

(water spirit), a figure in traditional folk beliefs, appearing in the form of an old man living in deep river pools near mills or in wells. The concept of the vodianoi, who was an object of superstitious fear, was widespread among many peoples, including the Slavs, and found extensive reflection in folklore (for example, the tsar of the seas in Russian tales and legends).
