Voenno-Istoricheskii Zhurnal

 

(Military History Journal), a monthly journal of the Ministry of Defense of the USSR. During 1939-40 it was published as the organ of the People’s Commissariat of Defense of the USSR and from January to July 1941 as the organ of the General Staff of the Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army. The journal ceased publication at the beginning of the Great Patriotic War and resumed in 1959. Voenno-istoricheskii zhurnal publishes articles, documents, and materials on the history of the art of war, primarily in the contemporary period beginning with the Civil War in the USSR. It also publishes memoirs of persons active in the Civil War and the Great Patriotic War, reviews, and scholarly information.
