The purpose of this article is to provide information on the IRS Volunteer Return Preparation Program (VRPP), the largest service of which is the
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.
In an effort to reduce the number of families who miss out on this tax credit and the chance to attract untapped federal dollars into their local economies, municipal leaders are once again implementing targeted outreach strategies, hosting events and providing opportunities for free tax preparation services through
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites.
This year IRS is offering refunds on debit cards to taxpayers at almost all of its roughly 12,000
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) sites.
The expansion would be made possible through collaboration with non-profit partners at more than 160 local
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites.
This college-volunteer effort significantly strengthened the
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, which the IRS began in 1969.
She has partnered with McHenry County College and the Center for Economic Progress to form a
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance site and was awarded a grant from the Illinois Community College Board to design and implement a program that would award a tax practitioner certificate to qualifying students.
Volunteer activities included: Delivering more than 2,500 financial literacy classes teaching 38,000 participants about saving; Providing free tax preparation and assistance to hardworking low-income families at
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance sites; Training more than 13,000 students in Teach Children to Save outreach; Reading to children in more than 4,000 classrooms, as well as providing over 41,000 books; Serving on more than 10,000 nonprofit boards across the country.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program offers free tax preparation for families with income of less than $42,000.
