Vorwärts!

Vorwärts!

a German newspaper published twice weekly in Paris from January to December 1844. Under the influence of K. Marx, who joined the editorial staff in the summer of 1844, Vorwärts! reflected communist viewpoints. It published a number of articles by Marx and F. Engels.

When the Prussian authorities demanded that the publication of Vorwärts! be forbidden, the government of F. Guizot found itself justified in deporting Marx and a number of his co-workers, and the publication of the newspaper was curtailed.

Fleischmann pays close attention to Fuller's language by situating it with respect to the "emerging Marxist analysis" of the 1840s, the Christian socialism of her fellow Transcendentalist William Henry Charming, and the socialism of Heinrich Bornstein, at one point Marx's co-editor of the Vorwarts! and later a correspondent for the Tribune (182).
At the beginning was Vorwarts! (Forward!), 2006--appropriately titled but, given the date of its making, also an indicator that the show was more thematic than chronological--in which a photograph of a girl with a drum (at a Swiss festival in the '60s) sits atop a small Indian bronze horse crowned by a lightbulb.
