WISPr

(Wireless Internet Service Project Roaming) A technology from the Wi-Fi Alliance that allows users to access wireless LANs in a similar fashion to cellphones. Pronounced "whisper," WISPr is designed for service providers. A Wi-Fi Zone logo signals users that they are currently within a wireless hotspot. A RADIUS server is used for authentication. The WISPr (Wireless Internet Services Provider roaming) protocol allows users to roam from one Wi-Fi hotspot connection to the next, regardless of which ISP is running the hotspot, much as a cell-phone user is able to roam between cellular carriers.
