"We've seen similar exploits in the past and all a user would have to do is visit a compromised Web site hosting one of these malicious files, which could be an MP3, WMA or
WMV file, and they could become infected," said Ben Greenbaum of Symantec Security Response
We found out the hard way that simply saving a compressed
WMV file of a project before deleting the original footage doesn't cut it--it's fine for watching on a computer or hosting on a Web site, but the compressed video has lost too much quality to ever be viewed on a big screen or shown on a cable-TV station.
In order to make video more accessible to more people, the company recently added a slick feature to its Gamer software that will automatically convert the digital video file format into a
WMV file.
To test these functions, I created an MPEG-2 transport stream with embedded captions, an F4V file with captions in a separate SRT file, an MP4 file with captions in a separate SRT file, and a
WMV file for Smooth Streaming with captions in an SMI file.
The program has at least three tabs for each
WMV file: one for general Attributes, one for Video, and one for Audio.
"Basically, just think of 'WMV 9' and 'VC-1' in a
WMV file as synonymous.
Alternatively, protected
WMV files use Media Player on Windows presented within a controller that allows quick or fine tune navigation to position the video.
The tablet played all of our MPEG4 and H.264 videos up to 1080p resolution, but there's no support for DivX, Xvid or
WMV files. In terms of music, it handled all the usual music formats except WMA.
Students can then save their stories in WMV (Windows Media Video) format and use any program that plays
WMV files, such as Windows Media Player, to playback their stories.
