In central part of FL panhandle, east of Pensacola; organized Dec 29, 1824 (prior to statehood) from Jackson County. Name Origin: For Col. George William Walton (1740-1804), secretary of the Territory of West Florida under Andrew Jackson (1821-22)

    RGDC built the 1.5 million square foot facility on a 130 acre site on East Hightower Trail in Walton County, Georgia. RGDC and General Mills originally sought LEED-silver certification for the building, however the number of credits accrued in five green design categories: sustainable sites, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources and indoor environmental quality well exceeded the number of credits needed for LEED-silver.
    A number of reconciliatory efforts have focused on the 1946 lynching of two young Black men and their two girlfriends in Walton County, Georgia. The four were killed near the Moore's Ford Bridge.
    Company founder Herndon was born into slavery in 1858 near the town of Social Circle in Walton County, Georgia. With only one year of formal education, he arrived in Atlanta in 1882, working his way to the top of the city's barbering trade, eventually owning and operating three barbershops--one of them considered the biggest and most elegant in the country.
    But on July 25, 1946, at the dawn of baby boom America, a vengeful white mob in Walton County, Georgia, murdered two young black couples.
