signal generator

[′sig·nəl ‚jen·ə‚rād·ər]
(engineering)
An electronic test instrument that delivers a sinusoidal output at an accurately calibrated frequency that may be anywhere from the audio to the microwave range; the frequency and amplitude are adjustable over a wide range, and the output usually may be amplitude- or frequency-modulated. Also known as test oscillator.

The introduction included scopes, digitizers, function and arbitrary waveform generators, a pattern generator, digital IO, spectrum analyzers, RF signal generators, and a variety of switching modules.
The universal waveform generator should be able to reach at least five different voltage level, an analog zero, two positive level and two negative level.
According to GaGe, the CG4800 is a high-speed, 14-bit, four-channel digital-to-analogue conversion (DAC) board which can be used as an arbitrary waveform generator, a stimulus device, or for generating multiple communication frequency bands.
Other products include a 30 MSa/s high dynamic range digitizer module, wideband arbitrary waveform generator and a family of general-purpose microwave switch matrices.
The PXI-5671 RF vector signal generator and PXI-5441 arbitrary waveform generator with onboard signal processing allow users to generate RF and baseband signals more than 300 times faster.
The Panasonic HDMI compliance solution includes two signal sources: a DTG5274 Data Timing Generator which provides digital data using features, such as its integral DC voltage outputs, simplify the test setup by eliminating the need for external power supplies; and an AWG710 Arbitrary Waveform Generator that provides a synchronizing clock signal to the DTG5274 and second clock signal (containing deliberately added jitter as needed) to the HDMI device under test.
Finally, Circle Machine, which takes its title from a midcentury analog waveform generator, is a video montage of musicians and breakdancers and played on a small monitor virtually at floor level.
In the wake of the termination of the Defensive Systems Upgrade Program (DSUP) for the B-1B Lancer, the US Air Force (USAF) is now working on upgrading the bombers existing EW systems -- in particular, the EDO (Deer Park, NY) AN/ALO-161 electronic-countermeasures (ECM) system and the Raytheon (Goleta, CA) AN/ALE-50 towed decoy Some modifications to the Lancers current EW systems have already been made, such as improvements to the -161's waveform generator to enhance lamming and an upgrade to the tail-warning system to lower its false-alarm rate.
Also new is a waveform generator that, rather than using sine waves and other traditional testing methods, allows users to define their own waveform to deform a sample.
