Waycross,

city (1990 pop. 16,410), seat of Ware co., SE Ga.; settled 1818, inc. 1874. Waycross is a rail and highway center in a pine lumber, livestock, tobacco, and pecan area. It has a tobacco auction market, beef processing, and a variety of manufactures, including utility poles and pilings, apparel, fiberglass boats, plywood, paper boxes, and burial vaults. Waycross State Forest, Okefenokee Swamp Park, and a national wildlife refuge are all located nearby.
