Wilhelmii Land

 

part of the territory of Antarctica, lying between 88° and 92° E long, and washed by the Davis Sea. Only Mount Gaussberg, an extinct volcano on the coast (369 m high), is free from an ice cover. The depth of the ice cap to the south exceeds 2,000 m. Wilhelm II Land has been a region for study by the Soviet Antarctic expedition since 1956. It was discovered in 1902 by the German expedition of E. Drygalski and named after the German emperor.
