(Mandarin, Ou Chiang), a river in eastern China. The Wu River is 338 km long and drains an area of 17,900 sq km. It rises in the northeastern spurs of the Wui Shan, flows over mountainous and hilly terrain, and empties into the East China Sea, forming an estuary. The mean flow rate in the lower course is 510 cu m per sec. The river overflows in summer and is used for irrigation. The cities of Lishui and Tsingtien are on the river, and the seaport of Wenchou is near the mouth.
