Wuhu

(wo͞o-ho͞o), city (1994 est. pop. 457,900), E central Anhui prov., China. It is a deepwater port on the Chang River, linked by rail with Nanjing and Shanghai. It is a commercial center, a major rice market, and the distribution and processing point for the agricultural products of the region. Paper, textile, and machine industries are dominant.

a city in China, in Anhwei Province. Population, 400,000 (1975). Wuhu is a commercial and distribution center for the agricultural region in the basin of the lower course of the Yangtze River. It has a large port on the river and a railroad station. Industry is represented by food processing (including rice polishing, tea processing, flour milling, and vegetable-oil extraction), cotton milling, metalworking, shipbuilding, and the manufacture of machine tools and instruments.
