Yosemite Valley

 

the valley of the Merced River, on the western slope of the Sierra Nevada in the state of California, USA. Yosemite Valley is within the bounds of Yosemite National Park. Length, approximately 11 km; width, 800–1, 600 m; depth, to 1, 500 m. Its steep slopes are composed of granite, polished by glacial activity. There are dense coniferous forests and many waterfalls, including Yosemite Fall and Ribbon Fall.
