This resulted from the fact that the trenches in Zborov had been improved and extended after the end of the Brusilov Offensive, so that they now needed a far greater number of soldiers to be properly manned than before.
66) The offensive was intended to hit the positions of the Austro-Hungarian and German troops in two different sectors of the front, one of which was the position held by the 35th and 75th IR near Zborov.
The Russian offensive in the Zborov sector started on 1 July 1917 when, following intense artillery bombardment, enemy troops attacked the positions held by the 75th IR early in the morning.
Even though it took some time to rearrange the mixed-up units after the end of the battle, it was evident from the start that the two predominantly Czech units deployed near Zborov had suffered severe personnel losses.
Consequently, the second army issued a short statement, according to which parts of the 35th and 75th Infantry Regiments had failed, above all, to offer proper resistance to the enemy in the battle of Zborov.
