Zhanatas

 

a city (settlement until 1969) in Dzhambul Oblast, Kazakh SSR. Zhanatas is the terminus on the branch line from Dzhambul. Population, 11,000 (1970). Phosphorites are extracted at the mine of the Karatau Chemical Mining Combine. A branch of the Karatau Mining and Construction Technicum is located in Zhanatas.
