 The Oh-My-God ParticleObserved over Utah in 1991 by a cosmic ray detector, the Oh-My-God particle was a rare ultra-high-energy cosmic ray that traveled through the universe at very nearly the speed of light. Since then, scientists have detected a number of other cosmic rays with similarly high energies.  Gutzon Borglum Begins Sculpting Mount Rushmore (1927)Mount Rushmore National Memorial, a massive carving of four US presidents' heads, each about 60 ft (18 m) high, on the side of a South Dakota mountain, took 400 workers 14 years to complete.  Rutherford B. Hayes (1822)After fighting in the Union army in the American Civil War, Hayes served in the US House of Representatives and then as governor of Ohio.
