After identifying the scapular depression, the patient was cued to lift her
acromion while slightly elevating the scapulae towards the back of the head, as to promote scapular elevation and upwards rotation with slight retraction, until the scapular angle was parallel with the T2 spinous process.
Given the fact that open fractures are rare, accounting for about 2.6% of all fractures [3], only one case of an open fracture of the
acromion was published in 2014 [4].
Submitted to the painful arch test, that identifies the conflict between the tendons of the cap and
acromion muscles and consists of slow arm abduction, the patient A.A., according to table no.
We record also the position of nine markers placed on the spinal processes (C7, T2, T8, T10, and L5) and bilaterally on the
acromion and the superior iliac posterior spine (Figure 1).
The pectoralis minor was elevated from the medial aspect of the coracoid, and the acromioclavicular (AC) ligament was incised at the level of the
acromion to allow for adequate stump length to incorporate into the capsular repair.
At first, the
acromion process, lateral epicondyle of the humerus and the middle part of wrist were identified and the longitudinal axes of arm and forearm were determined.
Electrode placement for the deltoid was at the point halfway between the lateral aspect of the
acromion process and insertion of the deltoid on the deltoid tubercle.
We keep the probe vertical in orientation with respect to the surface of the humeral head and include the
acromion and greater tuberosity in the field of view.
With the greater tuberosity pressing against the
acromion, the humeral head is forced anteriorly out of the glenohumeral joint (1, 2).
Acromion excursion was also used to evaluate trunk compensatory rotation made by subjects with stroke to accomplish the task.
