On southern tip of NJ, south of Atlantic City; organized Nov 12, 1692 from Cumberland County. Name Origin: For the cape, whose name commemorates Cornelis Jacobsen Mey, Dutch captain who explored the Atlantic coast of North America from Long Island to Cape May in 1612-14
