Crane, R. S. (Ronald Salmon)
(1886–1967) literary critic, educator; born in Tecumseh, Mich. A professor at the University of Chicago (1935–52) and founder of the Chicago School of literary criticism, he energetically upheld humanistic values in literature against the New Critics.
