General John J. Pershing Boyhood Home State Historic Site
Location:In Laclede, 1 mile north of US 36 on Highway 5 in Linn County.

Activities:Guided tours.
Special Features:General John "Black Jack" Pershing was the highest ranking military
officer in United States history and was named General of the Armies of
the US by a special act of Congress after World War I. Pershing grew up
in Laclede, and his boyhood home, a Gothic 9-room house, features
displays related to local history and to Pershing's life and career.
The site also includes the one-room Prairie Mound School.
