Henry Billings Brown

Brown, Henry Billings

(1836–1913) Supreme Court justice; born in South Lee, Mass. He practiced law privately and served as a federal judge in Michigan (1875–90) before President Benjamin Harrison named him to the U.S. Supreme Court (1890–1906). He was known for his knowledge of maritime law.
