Kaskelen

 

a city (since 1963) and center of Kaskelen Raion, Alma-Ata Oblast, Kazakh SSR, located on a highway in the foothills of the Zailiiskii Alatau Range, 27 km west of Alma-Ata. Population, 24, 000 (1970).

Kaskelen is the center of a suburban vegetable and dairying region. It has a vegetable-canning plant and plants producing building materials, clothing, and haberdashery. There is also acultural and educational facility.

He performed well at school, and was sent to a boarding school in Kaskelen. Early life after leaving school in1959 he took up a one year government-funded technical school in the town of Dniprodzerzhynsk, Ukraine.
