Lehrer, Jim

Lehrer, (James Charles) Jim

(1934–  ) television journalist; born in Wichita, Kans. A former Dallas Morning News reporter and Dallas Times Herald editor, he joined the Public Broadcasting Service in 1972, creating with Robert MacNeil an award-winning, hour-long alternative to network news, the MacNeil/Lehrer Report. He is known for his low-key, informal broadcast style. He also turned to writing, publishing several novels, such as Short List (1992), and plays, including Church Key Charlie Blue (1987).
