Location:Off US 285, on the northwest edge of Carlsbad.
Facilities:Visitor center with gift shop and book store, exhibits, restrooms (é), picnic area, trails.
Activities:Wildlife viewing, education programs.
Special Features:Dedicated to the interpretation of the Chihuahuan Desert, Park is an indoor/outdoor museum displaying more than 40 native animal species and hundreds of succulent plants from around the world. Display areas include a walk-through aviary, a greenhouse, and a 1.3 mile self-guided interpretive tour. One of the park's highlights is the endangered gray wolf. (Park is not affiliated or associated with the Living Desert in Palm Desert, CA.)
