Fishing and agriculture are the main occupations found among the populace. Dairy farming and cattle raising make up the main branch of the area’s agriculture. Along the coastal strip vegetables are grown. Grain is also planted and apple orchards are widely found. Cider is produced; other local industries include fish canning, sawmilling, and shipbuilding.
