Among the true creators are people like
Niklaus Wirth and Dan Bricklin, Alan Turing, and Douglas Engelbart.
This prompted the famous European language designer
Niklaus Wirth [6] to announce Pascal language in 1971 as an ideal language to teach programming, and well-suited for general-purpose applications, with claims to simplicity, well-structured data and control structures, and efficient and strict-checking compiler implementation.
Niklaus Wirth took a less strict view of compatibility when he designed the well-known language Pascal.
Also available from ACM Press Books is the second of three volumes on Oberon, the new operating system and programming language developed by
Niklaus Wirth as the successor to Pascal and Modula-2.
That issue also contains a paper by
Niklaus Wirth [4] that is highly relevant.
