Location:In the central Berkshires in western Massachusetts, off Route 20.
Facilities:31 campsites (13 rustic sites atop Berry Mountain, 12 sites with flush toilets at the mountain's base, and 6 open-field sites), restrooms (é), picnic area (é), group day-use area, trails (including nature and birding trails; some @di), scenic vista (é).
Activities:Camping, boating (non-motorized), fishing, swimming, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, off-road vehicle riding (including ATVs), hunting (with restrictions), cross-country skiing, snowmobiling.
Special Features:Forest follows the crest of the Taconic Mountain Range separating Massachusetts and New York. It includes 65 acres of wild azalea fields that are a profusion of pink blossoms in June, and Berry Pond, which, at 2,150 feet, is one of the highest natural bodies of water in Massachusetts. The forest also includes Balance Rock, a 165-ton limestone rock with a diameter of only three feet at the point of balance.

Leonard was a member of the 127th Company for the CCC Pittsfield State Forest Camp.
For the past year-and-a-half, the trails advisory board has met with the DCR and other conservation and recreation groups to discuss the possibility on a somewhat smaller scale at Pittsfield State Forest and also to create and promote recreational destinations for ecotourists throughout other state-owned parks.
