Seine-et-Oise

 

until 1964, a department in France, with its capital at Versailles. In connection with the administrative reorganization of the region of Paris (now the Region Ile de France), the departments of Val-d’Oise, Yvelines, and Essonne were formed from Seine-et-Oise.

The Group Three Prix de Seine-et-Oise at Maisons-Laffitte - also the target of yesterday's winner Coconut Squeak - is the next intended stopping point on November 1.

She has a long and thorough acquaintance with this region, having devoted an earlier study to the village of Bonnieres-sur-Seine, in the northwestern corner of the department.(1) A fixture of French political geography from the Revolution until a law of 1964 rearranged the administrative divisions of the Parisian basin, the mainly rural department of Seine-et-Oise, with its seat at Versailles, entirely surrounded the department of the Seine (the capital and its immediate suburbs), which was situated a little north of the median line and close to the eastern boundary of the larger department; hence the "Parisian countryside" of the book's title.

In 2005, New Girlfriend looked out of the top drawer when winning the Group 2 Prix Robert Papin, but she didn't win again until the back-end of last year at Maisons-Laffitte, where she held on to win the Group 3 Prix Seine-et-Oise. Fourth in that race was Linngari, and on Saturday he was a fast-finishing runner-up in the Dubai Duty Free.
