Siberian Race

The following article is from The Great Soviet Encyclopedia (1979). It might be outdated or ideologically biased.

Siberian Race

one of the races that make up the great Mongoloid race. The members of this race have dark and straight though often soft hair, light (compared with other Mongoloids) skin and irises, scanty facial hair, pronounced Mongoloid features in the eye area (60–70 percent epicanthus in adults), a high, broad, flat face with prominent cheekbones, a low nose bridge, and thin lips. Most of the indigenous population of Siberia east of the Enisei belongs to this race, including the northern Evenki, Eveny, and Iukagirs (Yukaghirs), some groups among the Yakuts and Buriats, and the Negidals of the Amur Region and Oroks of Sakhalin. The Siberian race has inhabited Siberia since the Neolithic.
