In his speech on
Sinai Liberation Day, Prime Minister Essam Sharaf told the Sinai tribes that they should engage in Egypt's political life as a whole and represent themselves and their issues to a higher institution, which the Minister said is going to be established, solely concerned with Sinai and its future.
Egyptian Coptic Christians marked the Easter holiday on Monday, and Tuesday is known as
Sinai Liberation Day, marking the return of the Sinai Peninsula to Egyptian control after the 1973 war with Israel.
Earlier in May, the ministry of interior released 3,094 prisoners on the occasion of
Sinai Liberation Day. The ministry further granted conditional pardons to 346 prisoners.
"Egypt, in cooperation with its sisterly Arab countries, would not allow any foreign power to expand its influence or implement its schemes in the Arab region," Al-Sisi said in a televised speech to the nation on the occasion of the 33th anniversary of
Sinai liberation day, which celebrates the final withdrawal of all Israeli military forces from the Sinai Peninsula in 1982.
