(Tales of the Parrot), a Persian and Tadzhik book of didactic tales written in India in 1330 by Ziya-ud-Din Nakhsha-bi. It is based on the Indian frame story in prose and verse Sukasaptati (Seventy Stories of the Parrot), whose first version dates from the 11th century. Tut-nameh consists of an introduction and 52 “nights, ” or tales that a wise parrot tells its owner. Different versions of Tut-nameh exist in Persian, Urdu, and the Turkic languages. The work has been translated into many languages, including Russian.
