Born in 1859 or 1860 in the city of Serpukhov; died May 17 (29), 1887. Russian worker and revolutionary. One of the organizers of the Morozov strike of 1885.
Volkov came from a petit-bourgeois family. He began working as a weaver in S. Morozov’s Nikol’skoe factory in Orekhovo-Zuevo in 1884. He was popular among the workers and was nicknamed “the lawyer” for his activity in defense of their interests. He and P. A. Moiseenko led the strike and participated in compiling the demands, which were presented to the governor of Vladimir. His arrest in the course of the strike provoked the indignation of the workers and led to a clash between strikers and troops. In 1886 he was banished by administrative process to Ust’-Sysol’sk, Vologda Province, for three years. He died there of tuberculosis.
