Web page acceleration

(1) See CDN.

(2) Speeding up the download of Web pages for dial-up modem users. There are several ways. ISPs may offer a high-speed dial-up option that compresses the pages at the server side and uses software in the user's computer to decompress them before they are handed over to the browser.

Web page acceleration can also be accomplished with an intermediate service that funnels user requests for Web pages through its own servers, which compress them before sending them on to the user. A different approach that falls under the acceleration umbrella is software that adjusts cache and other settings in the user's computer in order to optimize performance in general.
